    Hello,

I am attempting to upgrade my EE 1.7.0 to 2.5.3

I receive an error that my database is to large. I ran the file and went back to the browser. This didn’t work.

    Thanks,
    Gene Rocha

    Hey Gene,

Thank you for posting your question!

Can you give me a few more details? When you say that it did not work, what errors did you see or how did the updater let you know it did not work?

How comfortable are you working with MySQL?

I look forward to your reply.

    Cheers,

I ran through the admin.php and followed each step. I received the error page below:

Your database is too large to perform this part of the upgrade via a web request.
Please contact your system administrator and have them run the script located at:

    /my_system_path/expressionengine/cach/installer/update.sh

    Then access this page again.

    So I ran the file.

    Starting Large Database Conversion

UTF-8 Conversion (Step 1: Dumping database with current charset)

UTF-8 Conversion (Step 2: Importing database with UTF-8 charset)

UTF-8 Conversion (Step 3: Removing database dump)

DST Conversion (Step 1: Reading queries)

    read: 33: Illegal option -d

DST Conversion (Step 2: Writing temporary SQL file)

DST Conversion (Step 3: Importing temp file, this may take several minutes)

DST Conversion (Step 4: Removing temp file)

Large Database Conversion Completed: Please return to the browser to finish your upgrade.

I have run the file and return back to the browser. After I return back to the browser I received the same error.

Yes, I am comfortable are you working with MySQL, but not in the command line.

    Hello Shane,

    Yes. I refreshed the page.

This is not very helpful. DO you want to tell me what I should be looking for? I downloaded the current version and attempted to upgrade. I had an error because my database was too large. This seems like a common error. I understand that you have many request, however I expect more help then what I am getting. Does an upgrade of EE ever go error free?

    Hey Gene,

Most upgrades to go pretty smooth. The large DB upgrades do require the extra step, but in most cases there is no issue after the script is run.

Can you try clearing your browser cache? That will do it sometimes. Though a refresh should work.

If the refresh does not work, then let me know. I am going to be sending you an email, it will be from EllisLab. Just respond to that email and we can take things from there. It might help if I log in and take a look.

    Cheers,

    Hello Shane,

I was trying this on the development server which I needed to sync with the live server. I will respond to your email, but I don’t have time until Thursday of this week. I will need to go through the upgrade again and reply to the email on Thursday. Please let me know if this will not work for you.
