Invalid URI error with Google Website Optimizer

    I am trying to get Google Website Optimizer working to do some A/B testing on my site, which is EE 1.7. The problem appears to be that Google returns a paramatized URL encoded with EE-non-compliant characters, which is not getting through EE.

    Like this:
    utm_referrer=http % 3 A % 2 F % 2 F example.org % 2 F movement % 2 F foo % 2 F

    note: added spaces in encoded characters so they wouldn’t parse

    Does anyone have a solution for how to parse this thru EE? I have read of an A/B testing solution with Structure, but don’t use that. Would love something simpler without changing core components.

    Thanks!

    Hi drpudding,

    I’m afraid that’s not something we currently offer support for. EE’s system does not currently allow those kinds of characters in the URI.

    Is there anything else I can help with?

    So no plugins or hacks for parsing an encoded url param, period? I would assume that other people would have this same issue. Is there a better forum to post on to solicit some “homegrown” solution?

    Thanks!

    When I used to use GWO I usually opted for the JavaScript multivariate option which didn’t require separate URLs… however this thread on Google Adwords and htaccess might be helpful? Sorry I can’t be more help, my htaccess-fu is quite lacking.

    James,

    Thanks—but I didn’t see a thread in your post. Also—not familiar with JavaScript multivariate option (or much of GWO for that matter), so I’ll have to do some looking into that.

    Glad to see some folks are tossing in to help you find a workaround here, drpudding. Would you like me to move this thread over to the Community Help forum so that discussion can continue?
