Why would the dashboard on one of the sites I maintain say:-
“An unexpected error occurred attempting to download the current ExpressionEngine version number. Please visit your Download Account to verify you are on the current version. If this error persists, please contact your system administrator”
I’ve checked the license and it all seems ok (Not on this account, clients account)

    Hi Mat-Moo,

That just means ExpressionEngine had trouble calling home to our servers to retrieve the most recent version number, that’s all. If it consistently comes up, it likely means that your server has something in place to prevent applications from requesting files off the server. Could you check to see if your host has protections like this in place?

Still happening, and this is on our own dedicated server that has other EE sites on with no issues.. ?

So this is only happening on one site in an environment where other sites have no problem? Are all the sites in this environment running the same version EE? Could you check the cache folder at /system/expressionengine/cache to make sure it’s writable by the PHP process?
