hello - i was wondering if photos in the Photo Gallery module would be subject to either the Simple Search or Advanced Search forms? we have a client interested in maintaining a large photo gallery of veterans, with photos captioned and categorized. they would like site visitors to be able to search for specific names. is the caption field searchable?
    thx,

    Hi rho,

I would like to take this opportunity to edge you towards ExpressionEngine 2. The Photo Gallery isn’t in ExpressionEngine 2, so building one would be a potential problem if you decide to upgrade later.

To directly address your question, the Photo Gallery isn’t included in the Search module results.

However, if you use ExpressionEngine 2, you can build the gallery in a channel and it would be available to search!

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Cheers,

hi dan, thx for the answer! unfortunately our client’s website was built in ‘09 and contains 22 more websites via MSM - i’m not sure we can upgrade it all to EE2 w/o a significant overhaul…

so i guess it needs to be 1 pic per entry in its own weblog/channel to be searchable? i thought about matrix but i don’t think the search results would isolate individual rows from any matrix-output page.

    Hey Randy,

As long as you have ExpressionEngine 2 compatible versions of your add-ons, you can upgrade. At the very least, update to EE 1.7.3 since 1.6.x is almost 4 yrs old. Just FYI there 😊

thought about matrix but i don’t think the search results would isolate individual rows from any matrix-output page.

I used Matrix on a 1.6.x site and could return results based on rows. That should still be a viable option.

    Cheers,
