Comments are allowed in a channel but still not for the new entries

As stated above. I’ve set allow comments in the channel preferences to “yes”, but if I make a new article it’s still not allowed by default.

The odd thing is that if I check ‘update all entries with this setting’, it does change all existing entries to allow comments, so the module does work.

Also, the module settings are standard (all unchecked and 0 for edit limit time)

    Thank you!

PS: it’s EE 2.5.2, no MSM

    Hi noregt,

I’m not able to reproduce this on my end. The preference creates the desired behavior for me. Be on the lookout for an email from me so I can grab a look at this one first-hand.

Thanks for helping Kevin. If you can’t reproduce the issue, I think I’ll try to narrow the issue down first, to see if any of my add ons interfere here. I hadn’t checked that yet since the site is already live, making it hard to disable stuff.

    Hi noregt,

Kevin sent along a request for more details, did you want us to have a look? Would you like to investigate on your end some more?

    Cheers,

    Thanks Dan,

I wanted to make sure I’m not wasting your time by checking everything again and narrowing down the issue.

I’ve found the answer, and it’s quite simple; I’ve been setting “Allow comments in this channel?” to yes, which meant to me that it would allow comments with new entries by default, but that doesn’t. It only shows the checkbox. I needed to check “Select ‘Allow Comments’ button in Publish page by default?” as well which is located under administrative preferences.

A bit odd that this is not located under “comment posting preferences” but that made it work like I expected.

But thanks Dan and Kevin for trying to help!

EDIT: Thinking of it, it’s confusing that ‘update all entries with this setting’ does check all entries with ‘allow comments’

    noregt,

Indeed, that is confusing! I’ll add this thread to my Pile-o-improvements Folder to make to the User Guide and UI.

Is there anything else I can assist you with?

    Cheers,
