    Hello,

I have a 2.3.1 EE install that I can’t upgrade right now because it resides on a temp server for which I don’t have FTP access (yet).

I have searched the forums for my problem which seems to be that Site Members don’t receive Comment Email Notifications, non member email-adresses are delivered just fine. Is this a “feature” or am I missing anything obvious or is it a bug?

    Thanks and Cheers!

    Hey Marc,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

Can you check a setting? Under Channel Preferences what do you have for “Enable recipient list below for comment notification?” Do you have any addresses listed?

Just curious what you have there.

Non-Member email addresses are deliver ... does that mean notification is working but not for those that are members?

We may need to take a look.

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,

sorry, took a while to gain FTP access. Now I upgraded EE to the latest version (v2.5.3 - Build Date: 20120911) but the problem’s still there.

Can you check a setting? Under Channel Preferences what do you have for “Enable recipient list below for comment notification?” Do you have any addresses listed?

    Please see my attached screenshot.

Non-Member email addresses are deliver ... does that mean notification is working but not for those that are members?

That’s correct! See the first email-address in the screenshot is a member email, the 2nd one is a non member-email, which gets delivered perfectly. Weird hugh? 🙄

    Hi Marc,

Has the Member using the info@ address opted out by chance?

Have they checked spam/junk mail folders and filters? Have you tried another member’s email address to see if all members are affected?

Let me know those results. After that, we would need to get a look.

    Thanks!

    Hi Dan,

I have now just extensively played around with it (again) adding and removing members, changing their user groups and such. It now seems to work. If my client has received the emails I cannot tell right now because it’s in the middle of the night here. I’ll ask them tomorrow.

Has the Member using the info@ address opted out by chance?

Urm, I tried to find something about opting out of EE but haven’t found anything and have never heard of it before. Where would one do this?

Have they checked spam/junk mail folders and filters?

They have told that they did but since I don’t have access to their mail server you can never know.

    Thanks and Cheers!

    Marc

Edit: I just thought about one other factor. The email address that never gets delivered is the same as entered in “Return email address for auto-generated emails” under Admin > Email Configuration.

    Hi, Marc -

Another thing to check here is in each user’s account preferences - are smart notifications on?

If so, they’ll receive only one update until they login again, rather than an email notification for every new comment.  That could be the discrepancy you see between users with accounts, and guests.

    Make sense?

    Hi Lisa,

thanks, yes makes perfectly sense. Good addition!

I just checked and yes, “Enable Smart Notification” was checked. I unchecked it now. The good thing here is that that the account in question a “dummy” account eg. when the owners want to post something in the blog that is not tied to a specific person like announcements. So they never use this account to log in and thus won’t fumble around with the settings.

Marc - I’m so glad to hear it!  Have you tested and made sure that is, in fact, the issue?  I don’t want to close this off until we’re sure you’re all fixed up.

    Thanks!

As far as I can say, yes, I have tested and I am pretty sure that “Enable Smart Notification” and probably something else was the issue. At least I got a definitive and loud and clear answer back from my clients that everything’s working now. So just go ahead and close the thread off. Thanks for your support! Cheers, Marc
