    Hi there,

can you please clarify on the function of the “Insert Link” Button in the new Rich Text Editor (2.5.2).
Using Win XP and Chrome the Title field in the window features “Autocomplete” and just inserting the first letters opens a dropdown list of all my entries starting with these letters. I think this feature is really excellent and I would love it to create links to other entries easily.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t fill in the URL field with the pertinent link.
How is that supposed to help?
If you can look up the title, couldn’t you get the link as well?
I would really appriciate such a functionality, as this was always the only drowback in EE, as it was always difficult to produce links to existing entries.

And what does the checkbox “External Link” do?

By the way: The autocomplete only works with the setup mentioned above. It doesn’t work on IE (win 7) and it doesn’t work with Safari (OSX 10.8).

As I am only a private user of your powerful system, I guess I missed a point or am just to dumb. That’s why I simply decided to ask.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello reisi,

    Thank you for your questions.

The URL Title should be filled out automatically for each entry, but the relationship field will require you to select the entry.

The insert link button does just that, it allows you to create a link out of text.

If you would like some functionality that you do not see, please file a Feature Request. That’s the best way to get your ideas considered for ExpressionEngine.

Is there anything else I can help with?

    Thank you,

    Hello Shane,

thanks for the answer, but I am not sure I understand it. What do you mean by “select the entry”.

Let me state the actions I do:

I type into the Richt Text Editor Field.
    I select a word
press the link button: A window opens which has to insert fields: URL and TITLE (both are initially empty)
I set the cursor into the Title field
When I start to type a dropdown list opens that list all my exisiting entries starting with the letters typed in - and I can select form the list.
The URL field remains empty no matter what title I select.
If I manually enter a URL and close the window, the word that I originally marked turns into a hyperlink.

    Now the question was:
Why can the system suggest Titles of existing links, but not the URL that belongs to it.
And why is that autocomplete behaviour different with every browser?

The buttom line is: What is the easiest way to turn a word in an entry into a link to an exising entry?

    Does this make sense?

    Thanks for your effort

    Hello reisi,

    Gotcha.

That field will need to be manually filled out. The title field is not being populated by ExpressionEngine, that autofill feature varies from browser to browser.

    Does that make sense?

    Thank you,

    Thanks Shane,

    to be honest - No.
What sense does it make to populate a title from the database. The crucial information is the URL which I have to look up and typ in myself?

But if that is the way works.

    Thanks for your effort.

    Hey Stefan,

Since it is a function of the browser, there is not much ExpressionEngine can do to control that. But you can file a Feature Request to see if there is something that can be done.

    Thanks for your post!

If you need anything else, please just let me know by opening a new thread.

    Cheers,
