    Hey Guys

A client i have on an Expression Engine installation complained of truncation occurring on very large amounts of text being placed into a text area. A quick read around the forums revealed that this was a issue with the table field in the database, not EE its self and that the situation could be remedied by changing the field type in the relevant database tables.

I could not see an official post regarding this from the expression engine team. So i though i best double check before going poking around in the DB. I got a reply confirming this was indeed the source of the error and that its set this way as standard in order to improve performance. But that i could safely remedy the problem as previously mentioned.

Now however, i can not work out for the life of me how to alter the field type and in which table i have to do it. The SQL queries that i found on the forum seem to be relating to EE1. Can anyone shed any light on the matter?

    Hi Edd,

This is kind of a grey area. I can tell you, as a Customer Advocate, that making the change will have no negative impact on your installation.

What I can’t do is tell you specifically how or *exactly* where to make the change.

But I will say, exp_channel_data is the table you are after. The column will be named field_id_x where x is the ID number of the channel field you want to change.

You can find that ID next to the Channel Field listed in the Control Panel.

One you have the right column, you can set it to one of the larger text types allowed in MySQL.

I hope that gets you in the right direction!

    Cheers,
