    Hello,

I’m about to start work on a projet with multiple languages per website for 4 websites with 5 languages each using multiwebsite feature in Expression Engine

I’ve worked out how to detect what language I’m using and have thought through a system whereby each entry will contain all the entries on a per language basis :

    Example :

    title_en
    body_en

    title_it
    body_it

    title_fr
    body_fr

The last thing I need to find out is how to manage different URI’s for the same article.

What I would like to have is multiple uris :

    uri_en

    uri_it

    uri_fr

And then have a routing system that loads the same article with three different uri’s (the language detection already been worked out and the uri’s must be user editable)

How would you go about doing this ? I’m beginning to wonder if Expression engine is the right tool for the job and if I shouldn’t program my own interface to manage this with codeigniter.

If I can work out how to do the URI’s then Expression Engine should save me alot of time.

I’ve used this approach on a EN/JP site and while it worked OK for 2 languages I don’t think I would take the path for 5.  It all just gets too cumbersome - and IIRC I didn’t even translate the URIs.

Have you looked at Transcribe?  I’m using it on a site and it really solves some headaches nicely - including translations of template group and template names for urls.

    Thanks,

I looked at it initially but was put off by the $150 per site.

I’m working on 4 sites that are basicaly the same structure and just a different domain for each site and different contents.

Unless I’m mistaken I would have to pay 600 USD to use it on all four sites on the same multisite install of Expression Engine.

Developing the backend with codigniter would take me about two days more than with Expression Engine. So I cannot pay $1200 USD (Expression Engine multi site with 4 sites plus four Transcribe licences) as it is more than two day’s work.

It sounds like it all just comes down to comparing the value for your time and effort then. If the cost for EE and Transcribe makes sense, then go with it. Both come highly recommended! If they don’t provide you more than their combined cost of $450 per site for your efforts, then don’t worry with it.

I just stumbled upon this tread, but thought it’s worth mentioning that if your building your sites with MSM, you will only need 1 Transcribe license for the MSM install 😊
