Multiple image fields for categories?

Is it possible to extend categories to allow multiple image fields?

The ‘Add Category Field’ part of the admin only lists text input, textarea and select list as options (and not the various fieldtype plugins I have installed) leading me to believe that this area doesn’t have any plugin hooks.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Alex

Thanks for that thread, I hadn’t seen it.

Looking at the last reply it seems that the functionality I was hoping for (the FieldType API available in categories) doesn’t exist, or at least didn’t a year ago.  Our client has quite a few entries and is already pretty invested in using categories, so setting up a new channel isn’t too appealing.

The matrix option seems viable and all P & T add-ons are now low variables compatible.

    Hey Alex Dunae,

What do you think of using Matrix?

I am not sure where things are with the API but the fields remain unchanged in 2.5.2.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

    Cheers,

    Thanks for both your replies.

Matrix is definitely an option (we’re already using it) but I don’t think I follow how I would implement it.

The screen where I can edit custom category fields is limited to three built-in types (screenshot).  What I’m hoping for is a way to add Matrix (or just File) there.

    Am I missing something?

    Hey Alex,

You are not missing anything at all. There is no way that I am aware of to add a different field type to the category fields.

Is there anything else I can help with?

    Cheers,
