ExpressionEngine v2.4.0 - Build: date 20120123
Hi,

I dowloaded the dutch translation form Language Packs:
Dutch 2.5.0 EE-Language-Dutch

unzipped, put it in system/expressionengine/language/

Changed in Admin - General Configuration:
default language and default XML language in dutch

and stil get:
The form you submitted contained the following errors
The following field is required:

What did I miss.

Sorry to see you’ve encountered this issue.

On what page are you receiving the

“The form you submitted contained the following errors
The following field is required:”

message?

Can you verify that along with chaining the language to Dutch in General Configuration, that you’ve also changed it under your personal account preferences.

So, My Account -> Localization Settings -> Select Language, and make sure that is set to Dutch.

If you can double check that, and let me know what page that message is showing up on, I’ll get a better idea what could be causing you issues.

I fill in a form made by FreeForm wrong and then I get the Message Page: User Message.
(I’m stil working on a manner to get the errormessages in the formtemplate for example jquery validation script)

I changed my account and the first sentence: “The form you submitted contained the following errors” changes in dutch but the rest stays “The following field is required:”.

Is this not the page everyone sees when they fill in the form wrongly. So then everybody has to see the form error message completely in dutch. Isn’t that strange that I have to change that to every member/guest etc.

Hi Franka,

When you change the default language in General Configuration, any members who are already registered in the system will need to update their account if they want the new default language.

You said when you changed your account language, the first sentence changed to Dutch. That’s great! And that’s expected behavior.

The reason the rest is still in English, is due to the fact that the language for that text comes from Freeform’s language pack and not ExpressionEngine’s.

On line 443 of lang.freeform.php, which is located inside the FreeForm module package, you’ll find this language here.

So ExpressionEngine is translating everything it can into Dutch, and in the case of this particular message page, Freeform is providing some of the language as well, which is still in English.

Does that make sense?

Perhaps we dutch are a little bit strange but we like to work in english but for our visitors we like to show everything in dutch. And error messages are for visitors. I know I can change from english to dutch to look at what visitors get to see. Why I like to work in english: the forum is in english if I have a question it’s easier to ask a question when terms and names are familiar to you then that you have to translate. And have you ever tried to follow an installation in english and work it out in an other language. That’s hard.

So now I have this from my chest. I want to thank you for your help.

btw: If you know a good example for questioning the form in the template itself please give me some hints.

I suggest using a javascript solution for validating your form and having inline error messages. I have a preference for Bassistance’s jquery validation script (<a href="http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-validation/">http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-validation/</a>), but there might be other jQuery/javascript plugins that come in handy

but I don’t get it working. I put a topic in the ee but got no answer it’s not really an ee thing I know.

I too have the original problem.
changed my language to Dutch but when publishing an entry,
and leaving empty some required fields, the notifications are still in English!

The Titel field is required
The Introductie field is required

The problem seems to be that language files for form_validation are
located in the system/codeigniter/language directory and are “not” included
in any language pack.

edit: you can copy the form_validation_lang.php file
into the system/expressionengine/language/dutch/ directory
and translate any lines
