When trying to PM a member in the discussion forum by clicking on their username link, it takes you to a URL similar to the following:

    https://www.domain.com/community/forums/member/messages/pm24/

This results in an error, but the error isn’t shown on the screen. I can tell by the breadcrumbs though: Forum Home -> Control Panel Home -> Error

Instead of starting a new private message to the selected user, it shows the private messages folder - inbox.

Note: I am running the forums through the regular template engine.

This site is going live tomorrow, so it is very important to get this resolved ASAP!

    Thanks for the assistance.

    Hello maodiddy,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

What version of ExpressionEngine are you currently using? What version of the forums?

Are all your paths set correctly?

When you say “the regular template engine” do you mean that you are running the forums as is, or that you are running them through a template?

Are you logged in and Super Admin? Are there any errors at all?

    Thank you,

    EE: 2.5.2
    Discussion Module: 3.1.8

    Logged in as Super Admin

Running the forum through the regular EE templates as it documents here: http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/modules/forum/other_features.html#id3

All paths are set correctly as far as I can tell. All other features of the forum seem to work fine except this one.

Regarding errors, the breadcrumb would indicate there is an error, but no error is shown.

    Hey maodiddy,

Without an error message, this is not as easy. 😊

Can you double check to make sure that the person you are trying to send the PM to is allowed to receive PM’s? Instead of a message you are getting an error, just a thought.

If that checks out, it might speed things up for me to login and take a look.

    Cheers,

I think I found where the error is but I’m not sure where to go to fix it.

When I find a forum member from the Member List, click on their name and then click send private message, it works. The path it gives is: /community/forums/member/messages/pm/14

However, when you try to send a PM to a user in your buddy list, it fails because the URL is being built wrong:

    From: /community/forums/member/messages/buddies
In the buddy list, the link for the buddy name is built as:
    /community/forums/member/messages/pm14/

(Note the missing slash between “pm” and the member id)

Adding the slash back in gets you to the right page. I can’t locate the theme file to see this code - perhaps it’s generated outside the theme file, in which case it’s likely a bug in the forum build.

    Hey maodiddy,

I think it is time we got a peek at your setup.

Please be on the lookout for an email from EllisLab.

    Cheers,
