I transfered my Wordpress Blog to Movable Type so I could import it into EE.

But under the import tools there is no Movable Type import. Neither it is under modules and plugins and searching addons I can´t find it either.

I imagined Movable Type importation was supported out of the box?

All I have in my EE installation is the Member Import Utility

Hi. You might like to consider the Data Grab add-on, which can import in from RSS, Atom or XML. Just output a feed from your Blog and Data Grab can do the rest.

Yes I understand but my question was rather to where is the Movable Type Import tool?

I want to import from WordPress and there is an article in EE website but the software does not have any import tool at all I can find.

So EE can´t import anything without third party tools?

I don´t feel comfortable to buy an addon for just 1 time usage.

Ah okay. I think the only option is the add-on route I’m afraid. Data Grab is pretty cheap though, and I’ve used it a number of times with great success.

Ok but whats this page about then?
    http://expressionengine.com/wiki/Migrate_To_EE/

Its quite misleading and the page should be gone then. I just made work moving to Movable Type for nothing it seems based on the instructions there.

    From the page:

“By and large these will work by helping you get your information into MT format for importing.”

“MovableType is not included as it has an export feature built-in”

The wiki just points to Data Grab again. If you can get an RSS, Atom, XML or CSV export out of Movable Type, then just Data Grab – it’s really quick and straightforward, and you’ll be up and running in no time.

Is DataGrab the best one available?

If I buy this I would want to use it in the future for other stuff as well, not just this one time importing some blog posts. If I read correctly this can import RSS feeds automatically correctly?

If this is the case im interested as it could import RSS news I post with other systems on a specific schedule. Not sure if that would work but I guess it can import do more then just one time importation of data.

I can certainly vouch for it. Good support too.

Yes, you can save imports so you can perform similar imports in future. Not sure on the scheduling of them - check the docs, but there’s probably a way.

If you want to just display other RSS news but not import, I think the 1st-party Magpie add-on can do that.

Thanks I will check it out. If the plugin will be of some use in the future as well its worth buying. I already had to buy one module just to get breadcrumbs working. I don´t mind paying modules, but not if im doing to use them one single time and never again, which is my case to import some WordPress posts. And its not a huge blog either, very small, probably just 50 or so articles.

Of course in this case it seems the plugin can be of some use in the future as well for other stuff.

Thanks for the awesome recommendation Ian.

@Nibb - That page is part of the EE wiki which is actually community maintained. Information there may be helpful, but since it’s maintained by the community we can’t guarantee that all the information there is accurate with the latest versions of EE.

Is there anything else we can help with?
