Subscribe to comment notifications automatically via a Safecracker form?

I’d like to have a member who fills out a Safecracker form be automatically subscribed to receive comment notifications.

Is it possible to have a member who upon submission of a Safecracker form be automatically signed up to receive comment notifications?  Could I pass either the “notify me” or “Comment Notification Links Tag” using a hidden form field?

    Thanks.

    Hi Lori,

That’s not specifically a SafeCracker option, but rather in the channel’s preferences.

In Admin->Channel Administration->Channels: Edit Preferences - look for the “Notification Preferences” heading and the option “Notify the author of an entry whenever a comment is submitted?”

If you set that to “Yes”, SafeCracker will automatically honor that when a member submits an entry.

    Cheers,

Thanks Dan.  My problem is that I need to auto notify another member who is not the author of the entry, but someone who edits the safecracker form after the author creates it initially.

    Here’s my process:
    1. Student completes assignment safecracker form (creates EE channel entry)

    2. A teacher reviews student’s assignment answers then submits her review via a safecracker edit form.  (Edits the same EE entry that the student created in step 1.  I’m passing the teacher’s member_id is through a hidden field into the entry.)

    3. Student reads teacher’s review and then wants to comment on her review by submitting a comment using the Comment Module.  (Student is signed up to receive notifications)

    4. Here’s where the problem is.  The teacher isn’t the author but I want to notify her of the student’s comment.  But since she didn’t make a comment she is not signed up to the thread.

So I’m wondering if I can use the “Comment Notifications Link Tag” functionality somehow to sign my Teacher up to the thread.  Or perhaps in Step 2, I could somehow embed the Comment Module “Notify me” checked “yes” in a hidden field so when the Teacher submits the safecracker form she is auto signed up to the thread.

    Thanks.

    Hello Lori,

I am not aware of a way to make this happen out of the box.

I am happy to move this over to the Community Help Forum to see if any one in the community has an idea about this.

    Thank you,

    Hi Shane,

Sure, if you could move it over to Community Help that would be great.

    Thanks.

    Hi Lori,

Can I ask why the teacher’s initial comment is not a *comment*, rather than an edit to the entry?

If the teacher comments vs. edits, then your conundrum is solved. By commenting, both the teacher and the student are subscribed to the entry. Make sense?

If there is a reason you need the teacher to edit the entry, then we can keep working on this.

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan,

The teacher review consists of form with 5 individual drop down fields for criteria she scores on a 1-5 scale, and an open text box for their text feedback.  I need to be able to calculate the scores so putting them in the channel seemed like the best thing to do.  However, I guess if I require them to fill in their text feedback in the comment form then my problem is solved, huh?

    Thanks.

    Hey L2,

    Dan makes an excellent point.

Would you be willing to try those fields as required in a SafeCracker form?

Sounds like it would work well.

    Hi Shane,

Maybe I misunderstood Dan’s post.  I think he was suggesting that I make the teacher’s text area feedback a “Comment” instead of making it part of the SAEF (I’m using EE1).

The reason I didn’t do it that way was because the teacher has to fill out other SAEF fields as part of the student’s review.  So unless there is a way to submit both an SAEF and Comment Form using one “Submit” button then I don’t think this would work.

    Thanks.

    Hey Lori,

    My apologies, you are correct.

I was looking through Devot:ee to see if anyone has found a way to add a few fields to the comments, but no luck. I did not think there would be anything, but that would be nice.

Are you open to filling the text into the comment area?

Thanks for taking the time to look Shane.  I looked too and didn’t find anything either.

Are you open to filling the text into the comment area?

The reason I didn’t do it that way is because I have other fields that need to be filled out.  I haven’t found a way to allow the user to click one “submit” button to submit two forms (one SAEF, one comment module form).  Any idea if this is possible?

    Thanks.

    Hi Lori,

I am not aware of such a thing. Not saying it’s not possible, but I really doubt that it is.

Is there anything else I can do for you?
