Can EE be installed in a shared web host?

I’ve been reading the EE docs and particularly the installation section. For what I read, the documentation seems to assume that I have command shell access to my site’s files and folders. We don’t. We only have FTP access to the website files. Everything else is done pretty much using cPanel only.

Is it possible to install and deploy an EE site with FTP and no command shell access to the files? If so, is there any documentation that refers to FTP installation and deployment (i.e. how do we set the EE recommended file/folder permissions without command shell access)?

    Thank you in advance,

    Kerke

    Here Kerke,

    Thank you for your question.

You do not need command line access at all. What in the docs makes you think that?

The majority of our users are on shared hosting.

    Cheers,

You can set the permissions in either your FTP program (I think many have that functionality - I know that WS_FTP does, for example) or through the CPanel file manager.

Great, I went to my cPanel and confirmed that I can manually change the file and folder permissions from there.

    Thank you
