Hello,

I have a site that is currently on 1.6.7, and have had no problems until today.
Client informed me earlier today that the text on their site has disappeared. 
I couldn’t even log into the manager, as only an error code would appear:
Warning: Parameter 2 to Extensions::universal_call_extension() expected to be a reference, value given in

After a brief discussion with the host, they informed me that they’d upgraded their PHP and that seems to be the issue.

Looking for advice on options to provide the client.
I see that I could buy a renewal and upgrade to 1.7.3; would that version be compatible with PHP version 5.3.13?
I also see that I could buy upgrade to 2x, but I’ve not yet worked in the 2x environment. What is the learning curve for 2x?

Any other ideas for how to resolve this issue?

Indeed, 1.7.3 is compatible with PHP 5.3

There isn’t much different with ExpressionEngine 2 as far as using it is concerned. Weblogs are called channels and there are some concerns with certain add-ons that have not been migrated. Overall, it is still very much ExpressionEngine 😊

Roll back the PHP update, but that’s about it.

Hi, ended up just upgrading to 1.7.3 for time being and the site is back in working order.
