Our main content administrator has become unable to post content via the front end (comments or ratings via Solspace Rating). After hitting submit it goes to a blank page, or in the case of IE a browser error page (“The website cannot display the page”). This user is however able to post on the forum just fine, and can access and use the system admin just fine as well.

    Things I’ve already checked:
    - Delete cookies/clear cache and try again
    - Check if IP is banned (it isn’t)
    - Double check if user group has correct permissions (it does)
    - Ask user to try the same thing on a different computer - same problem happens on 2 computers
    - I tried logging into the account myself, and I could post comments, ratings, etc. just fine

I’m not sure what else to try - I’m really stumped. Do you have suggestions on what this could be, or where I should look?

Have you made any changes recently or have you done anything with htaccess?

No htaccess or any other changes.

The only thing we could think of that was different on the day this started happening was that we had a malware attack on the same day, but that’s been cleaned for over a week now, and no one else is having trouble posting comments.

Is it that this one member cannot now post any content, but others can. If so maybe it is worth removing his account and adding him back in again.

I would like to try that, but wouldn’t that remove his association with any content already submitted (which is thousands of entries in this case)?

That is true. Funny enough this was an issued i faced today. I am not sure if there is a way of doing a author transfer, i could not see a way, i did a quick query in the database.

If you want you could set up another account with the same member group and see if that account has any issues.

Are you able to change his account to Super Admin so you can see what, if any, errors there are?

    Hey gwarek,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

Can you check the server logs? Is that an option for you? Would love to see if anything comes through in the Apache logs.

You did some great footwork before posting here, which I really appreciate. There is not a whole lot left to try. There must be some error somewhere we need to capture.

    Cheers,

Good idea to make him a Super Admin. Here’s the error that he sees:

    A Database Error Occurred

    Error Number: 1064

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' AND ip_range_high >= '' at line 3

    SELECT `country` FROM (`exp_ip2nation`) WHERE ip_range_low <= 'c'' AND ip_range_high >= 'c'' ORDER BY `ip_range_low` desc LIMIT 1

    Filename: libraries/Session.php

    Line Number: 788

    Hey gwarek,

Can you disable the ip2nation Add-On?

    Let’s see if that helps.

    Cheers,

Erm not really. We use it for a bunch of stuff, so disabling it would break the site…

    Hey gwarek,

That’s where your error is coming from. Is ip2nation up to date?

What version of ExpressionEngine are you currently running?

    Cheers,

2.5.2 and the latest version of ip2nation that comes with it.

Since it’s searching the db for some odd characters instead of an ip address could this be a bug? It feels like this is outside of my control.

    Hey gwarek,

I thought those characters were a part of the copy and paste process. Those are literal?

That might be it. Where is that coming from? Do you have any data in your table that looks like that? Did someone enter an IP by copy and paste and maybe pick up some formatting?

    Please let me know.

    Cheers,
