Invalid activation request

I updated to 2.5.2 and for some reason am now getting the error “Invalid activation request” after clicking on the activation link in the e-mail.

If it helps, the URI looks like this: ?ACT=12&id=obGBHsNHEm

I’m using the third party module Zoo Visitor to handle registrations, but the activation code and e-mail comes from EE, so I assume this is on the EE side of things.

Have you seen this error in the past? What were some causes?

    Thank you!

    Hi John-Gordon,

    Thanks for your question!

There are a couple things to look at here.

    1) Those codes do have a time-to-live, they are not indefinitely valid. I believe it is 48hrs.

    2) We can get a look at what ACT 12 is supposed to be and make sure that is correct.

In your database, look for the table exp_actions and find the row for ID 12. What is in that row?

    Cheers,

I understand they have a 48hr life span; that’s not the problem though.

Action ID 12 in the database is “activate_member”.

As a side note, the members do get activated.  They are no longer pending after they hit that link.  It’s just that they get an error message for some reason.

I tried registering the user in the CP, through the Members > Register Member dropdown, added them to the pending group, and then resent activation e-mail.  The email came, but the activation link was missing the id string: ?ACT=12&id;=

Could this be a case of an improper update (missing files on upload) when I upgraded to 2.5.2?

Are you saying that you’ve had a recent problem update? What was the nature if the problem and what did you do to fix it?

I look forward to your reply!

    Cheers,

What do you mean by a problem update?  What I meant was that I upgraded from 2.3.1 to 2.5.2 recently, just like I’m supposed to. Activation links were working fine until I upgraded.  And I thought that maybe I had a bad upgrade or something.

Perhaps a better term would be a “bad upload”.  Files weren’t properly overwritten, etc.  I just tried a new upload of 2.5.2 files and I’m still getting the invalid activation request error.

    Dan,

I replied to your e-mail, but incase you forgot, I wanted to remind you that I am using Zoo Visitor for my user management.

    Thanks for the help.

    Hey John-Gordon!

Looks like Robin was able to sort this out to a Zoo Visitor issue based on the private conversation.

Is there anything else I can assist you with?
