SMTP timeout problems with critsend provider

    I am trying to set the email configuration to connect to an ESP critsend via SMTP.  SMTP works fine with my local hosting account and another provider.  I don’t know how to troubleshoot EE’s connection as I’m not aware of logs to check relating to the connection attempts.  Password and user are fine.  Server designation is fine and I’ve even tried adding smtp.critsend.com:25.

    I have tried telnet and find that I’m able to connect from the server to Critsend via telnet port 25.  I’m testing sending one email via the Communicate function. When trying to send I simply get a timeout with no SMTP errors to which I can refer.

    Can you suggest a next step in troubleshooting?  Critsend is confident everything is fine on their end and have worked with me a bit to no avail, them finally suggesting I post a ticket here.

    The connection problem was resolved by putting the following two lines in config.php

    $config['email_crlf'] = "\r\n";
    $config['email_newline'] = "\r\n";
