OK. I knew going in that I had redundant installs that had never been cleared, but the site was working, so I never cleaned up the back end. I went ahead and upgraded to 2.5 this morning. And I keep getting a path to theme folder error. No matter how I enter the path, the dashboard just won’t accept it. I need to clean up my install and fix this, but I am utterly clueless where to begin.

    More specifics may help:
    1.  What version did you upgrade from?
    2.  What do you mean by a ‘redundant” install?
    3.  Are you referring to domain.com/themes or a themes subfolder?

    I upgraded from 1.6/7x to 2.51

Redundancy: I had more than one set of theme folders in various places in the backend. Only one was being called by the code, but I never bothered to erase the incorrect locations.

Theme sub folder path. I had the issue with losing formatting on the dashboard, and fixed it using the tip I found on this forum.

    Hi Girlyshoes,

Make sure you have a copy of /themes from the latest version download and place that at the root level of your web server.

Now, you will need the server file path as well as the URL to /themes If you need help with the path, contact your host provider.

Set the value in Admin->General Configuration and you should be all set.

    Cheers,

I got that straightened out, but now I have a new issue.

I can now see my site (not formatted and no templates, but it’s better than the white screen of death). Unfortunately, this requires typing in the system folder name, and that never happened before.

Used to be: http://www.mydomain.com/Girlyblog/ would pull up my index page, but now
            http://www.mydomain.com/cute_name_for_core/

    pulls up the index page.

What have I done? I kept the same folder hierarchy as my earlier install.

    Hi Girlyshoes,

That is odd… Are you removing index.php with .htaccess?

It would be a good plan to check everything starting with step 8 of Moving ExpressionEngine to Another Server. Just to be sure everything is in order.

Specifically the value for $system_path in index.php and admin.php

I look forward to your reply.

    Cheers,

I gave up entirely. I couldn’t even restore my data base to attempt a fresh install. I ended up having my host reset my entire site back to what it had been prior to my attempt at upgrading.

At this point, I am just going to try and figure out why my photos all disappeared after my update from version 1.6x to 1.6xx.

I still love this tool, I’m just a little bummed about how impossible it was to upgrade. My tech guy thinks it may have been that the server/host is actually incompatible with 2.51.

    Hi Girlyshoes,

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get you through this!

My tech guy thinks it may have been that the server/host is actually incompatible with 2.51.

That is entirely possible. ExpressionEngine 2.x needs PHP 5.1 or better.

Is there anything else I can assist you with?

    Cheers,

Not unless you want to tackle the photos not appearing issue. I didn’t change my main upload folder, I didn’t change anything, and now none of my pictures show correctly. Sigh.

    Sure, I can try!

Have you synched your upload destinations since all this began? If you rolled back to a previous version, you should use the File Manager to synch all your folders. Content->Files->File Manager: File Upload Preferences and click the little “synch” icon next to each folder.

    Cheers,
