I have been working on a fresh install of EE 2.5.1 and have had no issues until I wanted to create some global variables and snippets.  All other templates were created with no problems, but if I try to create either a global variable or a snippet, upon hitting the “update” button I am taken to a broken version of the home page template with a url that looks like this “http://mysite.com/system/index.php?S=43f80b9b3459719696d8e4b5ea5536893112bd3b&D=cp&C=design&M=global_variables_create” and nothing new is created.

I couldn’t see any mention of this in the bug tracker yet.  Any ideas what is going on?

    thanks,
    Jeff

    Hey Jeff Hawkins,

I have not seen this one yet either.

I just tested this using 2.5.1.

Did you clear your cache as part of the update process?

Tools > Data > Clear Caching

    Please let me know!

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,

This was not an upgrade.  I did a fresh install of 2.5.1 for a client site, so there was no cache contents to clear, however, I have tried clearing the cache before placing the support request but it didn’t help.

I am happy to provide admin/ftp access to speed up the process.

    Hello Jeff Hawkins,

    Hmmmm .... new install, interesting.

Can you list out all of your Add-Ons? Are you using any themes in the Control Panel?

Can you enable debugging to see if anything shows up?

To turn debugging on please go to your Control Panel and navigate to Admin->System Administration-> Output and Debugging. Please set the last two settings, which are “Display Output Profiler?” and “Display Template Debugging?”, to yes.

    Thank you,

The only add-ons for the site are WYGWAM and Channel Images - both of which are the newest versions.

I have enabled the debugging preferences as requested, but it wasn’t reporting anything unexpected.

It seems like the global variable only fails when the variable content is a URL.  For example, the client has a current facebook page, but is going to be using a new facebook page at a later date.  So I wanted to set up the address as a global variable, it can just be changed in one location when that time comes. If I set the variable name as “facebook” and the content as “http://www.facebook.com/currentpage”, it will fail every time. I can enter other content as a variable, or have a URL elsewhere in the variable content–just not at the start.

I tested the same variable in another site with the same web host, this time on a site running 2.5.0 and it accepts the same variable with no problem. At this stage I am guessing it is other a corrupt file on the server, or a bug that made its way into 2.5.1.  If I get time tomorrow I will do a test of a fresh install of 2.5.1 on another server to see if I can replicate.

    Hey Jeff Hawkins,

How are things now? Did you upgrade to 2.5.2?

    Please let me know!

    Cheers,
