This question may be related to a resolved thread.

I upgraded my installation from 2.4 to 2.5.1 on my local machine and got a strange blank screen after running the wizard. If I deleted the “installer” folder, I was able to resolve admin.php. But once that happened I got the message that the installation version (2.5) was different than the reported version (2.5.1). Going into config.php, I saw that the version number was indeed 250, so I changed it to 251 and the message went away.

Should I be worried about that?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello kalath726,

    Welcome to the forums!

Typically when the version is not updated in the config.php file, the update did not complete successfully.

Do you happen to know where in the process it stopped? Did you get a completed message or just blank screen?

I have a feeling it did not fully update.

    Cheers,

No completed message, just a blank screen… How do I tell where it stopped?

EDIT: Oh, and thanks for the welcome! I’m new to EE but I’m loving it. Building two sites simultaneously right now for fairly high profile clients. Looking forward to going live soon! I’m just a bit of a security freak so I want to make sure I’m up to date as much as possible.

All right now I logged in this morning and I get this message:
“An unexpected error occurred attempting to download the current ExpressionEngine version number. Please visit your Download Account to verify you are on the current version. If this error persists, please contact your system administrator”

So, it would appear that I did indeed not complete the upgrade fully. I tried creating another db and pointing to that and upgrading to no avail… Same problem happens.

    Hey kalath726,

That error message happens when the dial home script cannot contact EllisLab.

This can be ignored and disabled in the Control Panel under Admin->General Configuration and changing the setting for “New Version Auto Check”.

    Cheers,
