I’m in the process of reorganizing a very large, very old health education website. We have 50,000+ members in our support forum and 500,000 posts, etc. I’m tired of vbulletin and its inability to integrate well with the rest of the website and would also like to incorporate some new features, such as live chat associated with the forum.

How easy is it to import v-bulletin sites into the EE forum software??

It’s the nuts and bolts of our site and I just can’t have all 50,000 reregister… so I need to be able to import user names, passwords, posts,  categories, etc. etc.

I also have a lot of content to integrate into a separate CMS system that we will be adding too.

    All ideas and feedback welcome!

    Aru!

    Hi aruaidh,

Thank you for your questions and you interest in ExpressionEngine!

    I feel I should clarify - Discussion Forum is a first-party add-on to ExpressionEngine. ExpressionEngine is a world-class, full-featured CMS.

There isn’t a direct import - per se. It would need to be handled by someone familiar with the schema of each forum system.
It would be worth your time to contact a member of the ExpressionEngine Pro Network to consult with.

I can speak from experience here, it is entirely possible. Again, someone familiar with vBulletin’s mechanics can get the members and data exported. ExpressionEngine provides a Member Import Utility so your members wouldn’t need to re-register at all!

I also have a lot of content to integrate into a separate CMS system that we will be adding too.

Which CMS are you considering? Given the nature of the overall project and the need for Forum integration, I think ExpressionEngine would be worth a look for you.

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

    Cheers,
