I can’t for the life of me find the forum theme template that is used when the user clicks the magnifying glass icon (for example, when searching members to populate for recipients). Can you please point me in the right direction?

Example of what I am talking about is included in the attachments.

    Hello maodiddy,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

Is this the default theme? Or is it Blue?

    Thank you,

I can’t find the template for that code in either. Do they use different templates for each theme? I assumed they would be the same.

    Hi maodiddy,

It looks like forum_member/message_compose.html and forum_member/view_message.html are used.

    Cheers,

OK thanks. What I don’t get, is the pop-up includes all the content from the forum_global/html_header.html and forum_global/html_footer.html templates, even though those are not included in the forum_member/message_compose.html and forum_member/view_message.html… Obviously when a new window opens, I don’t want the same header and footer as the rest of the site - i want to be able to control the styling, width, etc. independently of the rest of the site… What am I missing here?

    Hey maodiddy,

Your not missing anything, you are right. There is much work to be done on the forum themes. I have had to work with skinning them and it’s not an easy or fun task.

I wish I had a better answer for you.

It’s already been made a few times, but feel free to add your $.02 by filing a Feature Request.

Is there anything else I can do for you?

    Cheers,

How are you doing it on your own forums?

    Hey maodiddy,

That I do not know. We have a team that manages that side of things.

    Cheers,

So… are you saying that even though there is no code in the template to pull in the html_header and the html_footer, it does so anyway? And if this is the case, are you saying that there is no one there that can point me to WHERE it is pulling those pieces from so I can make it stop…?

I’m just looking for a little guidance here because there is pretty much NO documentation regarding how the forum theme files are put together and I have a job for a client that needs to be professionally executed. I am really looking to you guys to offer some support on your own product, please.

    Hello maodiddy,

    Unfortunately, yes on both counts.

So the forums are not at all like ExpressionEngine. That footer is included automatically in all files. The only way to change the footer is to change the global file which of course would change it everywhere. There is no way to exclude the footer from one file. So yes, I am saying there is no way to make it stop. The parser is adding the header and footer, the templates do not need to have any code for including them.

I feel your frustration. There is little documentation and maybe one or two “themes” in existence for this very reason. It’s really hard to skin the forums because of the way the parser works.

I wish I could give you more help here. If you want I can move this to the Community Help Forum. The community may have some tips for you, but I have not seen very much on this topic at all.

    Sorry again!
