Forgive me for i am failry new to EE.  I was given control of our site after our previous IT guy took off.  We are running our site on 2.1.1 and i would like to know a couple of things.  Is this version capable of supporting the facebook “like” buttons /twitter / g+ integrations? And how would i go about adding them to my news updates?  I know there is probably a lot more i need to learn before someone can simply tell me “how to add this feature” so any info you can give that will point me in the direction would be a huge help.  Thank you.

    Hi NMullen,

Thanks for your question and for posting to the Forums!

There isn’t anything special about adding these features to an ExpressionEngine site. It works just like any other site, only you place the like/tweet/share code in the proper template for your needs.

If you are new to ExpressionEngine, have a look at the Getting Started video for a great overview of how the system works.

I look forward to your reply!

    Cheers,

Thank you very much.  The video was very informative.  I noticed that some sites that have the like/tweet/share buttons appear to be a java type of code.  Do you know where i can find the code for these buttons?

Again, thank you very much for your help

    Hi NMullen,

Indeed, those codes are usually bits of JavaScript and can be obtained from the sites you want to link to.

For a tweet button, you would go to Twitter’s developer resources: http://dev.twitter.com/

If you want a way to incorporate several sharing options, you can look into somehitng like Add This.

    Cheers,

    Hey NMullen,

Glad to hear it! Dan is pretty good with the Add-On database in his head. 😊

If you need anything else, please just let me know by opening a new thread.

    Cheers,
