I wanted to know if i could use expression engine to hold data for me, for example marketing data. Basically instead of using excel i would use expression engine to put data in and be able to view it and bring up reports for myself. I want a solution thats online and want to use something thats self hosted. I love how expression engines tables look and would really love it if i could do this.

Please let me know if this is possible. I dont want to show anything on the front end of the site, i just want to keep my data in the backend (admin panel) of the site for my personal use.

I’ve already bought an expression engine license for a website of mine, but i want to buy another license in order to do what i have mentioned above.

    Thankyou

    Hi entourage02

There’s no reason why not, after all that’s what EE does - store (organised) data in whatever structure you create.

What’s more you could leverage EE templates and tags to create a front end for yourself (not publically accessible), and use EE’s feature set to create custom reports, data views, searching and so on.

    Hi entourage02,

    Thanks for your question!

ExpressionEngine can store any kind of data for the most part.

How that data is organized and presented is completely up to you.

Can you give me an example of the data you might want to work with? What kinds of reports you might want to run?

    Cheers,

    Sure.

Basically i run online advertising campaigns on facebook, google adwords, etc. I wanted to be able to input details like this, for example lets say i want to start a campaign on facebook.

I would enter this info in fields on a daily basis:

    Date
    Campaign name
    Offer
    Spent
    Revenue
    Profit
    Conversion Rate
    CTR

I should be able to see all the campaigns ive started, and their totals above, and if i click on a campaign i can see the postings ive made each day which is the info above as well but broken down by date. Its basically for me to keep organized, even though i run online advertising campaigns, i need somewhere to input this data so that i can view it at anytime.

I would do this with excel and currently do, however i want something that it hosted so i can access it anywhere, as well as something that looks inspiring when logging into. I love how expression engines admin panel looks especially with the css mod i bought online, it just looks so clean and visually nice.

This is what i use right now: http://cashtactics.net/01/27/why-youre-poor-ppc-income-tracker.html If you click the “download here” button you will be able to download the excel file and view its pages. The video shows what the excel file holds exactly, its pretty basic so im pretty sure i can get something like this working in expression engine if it allows me.

    Hey entourage02,

    Indeed! ExpressionEngine could handle that.

Formatting the output would be entirely up to you. You would also need to look over on Devot://ee for a few of the add-ons that could handle the math.
