    Hi

I’m running EE in a MSM-enviornment with a number of sites.
The setup I’m using is something like this:

    -system (off site)
    -site A
    —themes
    —site
    —-theme
    -site B
    —themes
    —site
    —-theme
    etc.

The theme folders are pretty much identical between the sites (the site specific themes are located in a separate folder), and especially the third party themes gives me a headache every time there’s an update.
Would there be a way to place the themes folder “off site” like I’ve done with the system folder, o do I have to have them accessible?

The thought of pointing them all to the same url have occurred, but this wouldn’t look all that nice 😊

    Hi Patrick,

The thought of pointing them all to the same url have occurred, but this wouldn’t look all that nice 😊

Indeed, that is the prescribed and supported means 😉

The idea being to maintain one /themes folder on your main site that is accessible to all the others. That’s why themes are accessed via URL and not file paths. The /themes folder contains assets that have to be loaded by the browser like images and JavaScript.

My suggestion would be to consolidate them all under you main site and save yourself the hassle of keeping three separate locations up-to-date.

    Cheers,

Guess I have to make one of the sites “main” then 😊

Thanks for the quick answer Dan!

    Hi Patrick,

Guess I have to make one of the sites “main” then 😊

For our purposes, that just means “site 1”, the first site set up in EE before MSM was installed. But for sure, save your sanity 😊

If you have other questions in the future, just let us know.

    Cheers!
