    honestly I do.

    So I have a travel website: Walkerstrails

    Its on ee 1 and I decided I would try and update my site to ee 2.  Of course I scratch my head and then started looking around for someone who knows more than me to do the job for me.  The only reason I didn’t fall on the floor in a dead faint at some of the prices, $10k (seriously?) is that after my recent RTW trip I am staying at a friends house in the spare room on a mattress on the floor (I so want my house back) so its not really possible to really fall anywhere!

    So after a little bit of ‘google’ research I managed to set up a ‘test’ site.  I didn’t want to just upgrade my old site straight to ee2 since I know from the research I’ve done that there are some functions that I am going to have to work on to get it up and running. (er like a photo gallery, although there does seem to be modules etc for that).

    I’m rather surprised that I managed to install the test site, (do not know if I did it properly but it seems to be up): Testsite

    I even managed to get the basic template for my site up and a Journal page here: Testsite Journal

    Here’s where I am at a loss.  How the heck do I get it to display the journal entries?  I started with the journal page because I figured that should be the easy part.  Its the photo gallery and the video gallery (with a html5 player since I travel with an iPad) and the twitter and Facebook integration that will be the hard part. Right….

    or so I thought.  I’m stuck on getting the journal entries to display.

    Any help? Words of one syllable or less would probably be helpful…  Oh and I am reading my way though the Doc’s, so far I haven’t managed to get to the part where one waves ones magic wand and the whole thing just mysteriously works!

    one of the significant changes from 1 to 2 was the verbiage shift from “weblog” to “channel”.

    Try changing the opening and closing weblog tags:

    Change:
    {exp:weblog:entries…}

    To:
    {exp:channel:entries…}

    (it looks like you may have changed your opening tag, but perhaps not your closing tag.

    ...

    Also, “assign variable” doesn’t happen anymore, but something similar is Preload text replacements:

    ...

    It looks like you’re very close… just a couple of tweaks, and you’ll be flying

    Hello cmw1,

    Welcome to the world of ExpressionEngine 2.4! It’s an awesome place to be.

    Mark has provided the key. Weblog is now channel. That should get you rocking!

    Thanks again Mark, you have been busy my friend!

    Please let us know how it goes cmw1.

    Cheers,

    Right, thanks Mark & Shane for your responses.

    So I have the entry that I put up on the test site home page telling people that they are in the wrong spot.  That is at least a little exciting!  None of the journal entries from my site though.  Is it a case of get everything to display properly first then import ones old journal entries into the new site? (um, somehow…)  Of course I do not really want the welcome entry to show in the journal when the new site replaces the old but that is another problem.

    All I have done so far is to copy the ‘script’ from the journal page on my current site to the test site journal Channel/Page.  (Its nice that you gave me some credit of being very close, that made me smile! - er in reality I am taking the ‘shot gun’ approach and changing things in the template - saving - then checking what/if anything has changed - then generally panicking and going back to undo what I did….)

    So, now my attention has shifted to the info on the right hand side of the ‘Welcome” entry. the display under Categories is not working.  then I realised that it isn’t working because while there are heaps of ‘Categories’ in my actual website there are none listed in the test site?
    Right/Wrong? and er, I haven’t created the Channel/page for it to display on even if I had?

    Would I just be better wiping the whole Journal page except the part that calls the template and finding script written for ee2 that is in ‘blog/journal’ type formate that I like?  then creating the appropriate pages/channels?  Then importing/‘calling’ my entries to display in said template?

    I’m not sure that makes sense to me let alone to someone who knows what they are doing…

    Small steps…

    Cath

    Hey cmw1,

    No worries my friend. You are in the right place. Well, almost. I am going to move this thread to Community Help Forum where you will find some really nice folks who have been where you are now and can offer some great advice.

    That does not mean that I will stop chiming in. 😊

    Let’s see some template code. Show me how you are calling that side navigation and we can troubleshoot.

    Cheers,
