    Hey folks,

I’m here today to try to address an ongoing issue with a forum I built. Ever since we got creative with spam blocking, we’ve had user registration issues.

Now, new users self-activate, but handfuls of them get the “Site is offline” Screen of Death.

Are you able to tell me:

    1. What circumstances would cause any person to get this screen upon login, but not while logged-out? (Please tell me everything you can think of.)

    2. If the group “Members” that new registrations go to is locked (erroneously), can you tell me how that affects new member registrations? (Again, everything you can think of.. thanks..)

    3. Are blacklisted IP’s only blocked from logging in or are they blocked from all page loads?

    4. I am attaching a document that details this activity that was posted to another site (!) Clearly - there’s no way for them to tell us directly what’s going on. One of the site’s moderators found this. I need to know everything you know about how to go about diagnosing the common threads described here. (Well, I WAS going to - but the forum wouldn’t take the upload. Please advise where/whom I can send this to. thx)

This is a biggie. Thanks in advance for all your good, hard work.

    Hello .carolinecblaker.

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

I will do my best to answer your questions.

    1. I have not seen the “Site is offline” as an error message before. Can you tell me a little about how you “got creative with spam blocking”? This may help me figure out why you would get a message like that.

    2. Security Lock on a group just means that a Super Admin is the only one who can assign members to that group. I would keep groups that registered members are assigned to unlocked.

    3. Black listed IP’s are blocked from the entire site.

    4. Can you paste in the content that is pertinent?

    Thank you!

    Cheers,
