Hi all,

Did a search and found some old results so hoping to get some up to date asistance.

Looking into EE and was wondering if it can do the below either out of the box or with the help of add-ons.  Would also be looking for a very good designer to do this work for me.

- Business directory with advanced search capabilities - maps, auto-suggestions from the input fields, etc.
- Automated signup process with several payment options which will give the user different styles of advertising.
- Think a more user friendly yellow pages.  Industry specific.

Building a directory is more than possible with EE, I’ve worked on similar sites!

EE will easily handle all the data - member account, entry listings, categorisation and so on, but you’ll most likely need some addons to help with payments, maps etc - check out http://www.dovot-ee.com as there are numerous addons available for various functions.

The only thing I can see that may require some custom work would be auto-suggestions for which you’ll probably need to work in AJAX style functionality to search on the fly.

Hi Avids,

I was interested to hear if you’ve made any further progress on this project, as we’re about to start building a similar kind of system.

What has me stumped (so far) is how to wire together some kind of shopping cart/e-commerce system with a SAEF for listings.

In our case, anyone can put their content in our directory for free, but if you want to pay a fee you can get an expanded listing.

I was thinking maybe of building this based on membership groups. A Basic Member would have access to an SAEF that only would collect basic data. A Premium Member would have access to an SAEF that had more fields, etc.

But then… how do I prevent them from creating more than one listing? That’s still an issue.

Kind of still in the ‘thinking out loud’ stage but would welcome any input from people who’ve already licked this problem.
