    Hi,

I’ve written a custom sql query for a filter function we needed on a msm site, so I get better performance.

Now, when we start a new site, we say to duplicate the channel (tried both options), but is it normal, that all fields are duplicated as well?
I mean, the context is exact the same, only another type of event/site. Now we have a huge table with fields and that’s only for 2 sites, more to come.

That also means that I need to duplicate my sql query for each site, something I wanted to avoid.

    Anyone any ingsights… ?

    kind regards
    Vic

It seems it were only some Matrix fields that were duplicated…

So you can basically ignore this post. 😊

    tnx

    Hi Vic,

    No worries!

Is there anything else I can assist you with?

    well… 😊

is it true if I want a new site all my channel fields are duplicated?
Won’t the exp_channel_data table be huge after a while?
I have now 2 sites and there are at the moment 40 fields in the exp_channel_data table.

    kind regards,
    Vic

    Hi Vic,

is it true if I want a new site all my channel fields are duplicated?

Only if you select for them to be duplicated. You can create a completely empty site as well. Totally your choice!

The channel fields will have to be duplicated if you want to use the same fields in more than one site. ExpressionEngine keeps up with where things belong using site_id, one for each site you create.

It can get rather large, but I have seen some really large MSM installations and the performance is rather acceptable.

    Cheers,

    Hmm, ok, pity 😊
because each event-website is always the same, only other content and other design.
will need to find a more dynamic way to change that custom query.

    Thanks!
