Is Mountee Safe?

While I love the power of various add-ons, they can make things more complicated, especially when it comes to keeping EE up to date.  That said, I try to make the most of EE without add-ons.

At any rate, I keep seeing Mountee, and am currently testing it out.  It’s pretty amazing to say the least.

I’ve looked around the forum to see about any potential problems.  I see several descriptions of problems where people made a note of it in the beginning, but eventually found their problems were being caused by another add-on, bad configuration, server issues etc.

Without understanding the inner workings of Mountee, I’m still a little hesitant to use it, especially for websites that I can’t afford to have much downtime.

Has anyone used this extensively on several websites without ever having any problems?  Is there anyone that might be able to shed some light on how Mountee works, why it’s reliable and nothing to worry about?

I understand that it must communicate directly with the database in some way, but don’t know how, and don’t want to get in a jam down the road where the solution involves more than just deactivating and uninstalling the module.

Any help / info would be greatly appreciated.

I have used it (Mountee) for months now and have had no problem.  It is extremely easy to use and makes my life a whole lot simpler.

Not sure about the security aspects, but there are two things I don’t like about MountEE:

    1. It seems to just lose the handle on the connection after a while. I’ll edit and save a file, and it looks like it synced with EE, but it really didn’t, and gives no indication that it didn’t.  I have taken to simply unmounting and remounting the remote filesystem every 6 hours or so, just to be safe.

    2. There is no way to configure it to work with a simple .htaccess.  If you want to password-protect your site, or a portion, you can’t access it with MountEE.  Best you can do is disallow public access, and require administrative login for access.

Still, even with those two issues, I am SO much happier editing my files locally in a nice modern editor.

I’m also testing Mountee and wondering what others have experienced.

Can’t you simply accomplish this by saving templates as files—or are you referring to Global Variables and Snippets?
