    Hi there,

    did i say i hate updates 😊

I updated ExpressionEngine Version 2.2.2, Build 20110801 to the newest one 2.4.0.
After the update i lost most of my images uploaded via the normal file upload function.
I synced every upload folder, some of them worked, some of them not and i can’t figure out why.
The special folder i have problems with, showed me 170 files to sync, afterwards it cleaned my image folder and there were still different numbers of images the file_count shows me to sync.

Because i use a german language pack and some of the table descriptions look like vars, i tried to switch to english, because i read in the forum that it’s maybe an issue because of this. But my german language version doesn’t switch to english.

It would be great if someone could help me with this, because i tried normally to do something else as to fix bugs after an update :-(

    Regards

    Peter

    Hi Peter,

I’m sorry you are having trouble with this!

The German Language Pack has been updated to be compatible with ExpressionEngine 2.4, be sure to grab the latest version.

Can you check that the folder permissions on your upload destinations are still set to 777?

Do the images still show up correctly on the front of the website?

Are you using any file related add-ons like Assets or Channel Images?

    Cheers,

    Hmm

i updated the language pack now and the german translation is now correct.
But the images are still missing. I did a backup before, copied the images on my live server again, set everything inside images to 777.
But everytime i sync the files via the file manager shipped with ee, the images are deleted, after the sync and i don’t know why,
because for every entry i had an image before, the thumb image for the short backend display is still there, but the backend don’t get it when i call a preview for it.
When i upload them again, i can have a preview box with the missing images, but the frontend still isn’t able to show it.

I use channel images, but not for the article overview images, because they are a bit different.

I have no clue why this doesn’t work, and not all images are missing…

In the new exp_files table are also not all files included, although in exp_channel_data every entry has the correct image fild_dir and image path?
I think there is a problem to import the images via file sync? But i don’t know how to get it fixed?

    Thx

That script bring all my images back http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/213519/ (see below), but can some of you proof if this a real solution, because i think i’m not the only one, and maybe why this happens during the update process, because i’m not a real db pro?

Would be great to hear what the problem was and if i can use this script with a quiet conscience?

    Thx

    Peter

Another problem is that no thumbnail images will be created. Tried again to sync the files after i used the script, but the problem is still the same.
Most of my images aren’t visible at the frontend and get also deleted on the file system?

    Hi Peter,

Lets go back the first thing you mentioned. Your update from 2.2.2

With all the oddities in your database, it leads me to believe that the update perhaps had some trouble?

Did you encounter any errors in the update process that you recall?

Have you made sure that all of your add-ons, especially Channel Images are up-to-date and compatible with ExpressionEngine 2.4?

    Cheers,

So, sorry for the long delay.
I did a fresh update on my live system and run into a safe cracker problem, after i replaced the old one of the third party folder with the new one of v2.4.0.,
all my thumbs are not synced again. But after i synced it my images won’t be deleted any more and i have all my thumbs back again.
Did EE changed something inside v2.4.0 that this works now?

I saw in one post that safe cracker is now implemented inside the core, should i delete something in the third party folder or anywhere?
Is there also a check script for cleaning obsolete files? Would be great 😊

Another strange thing was that i’m again inside a redirect problem in chrome, after i started the admin.php, but afterwards i deleted my htaccess and start it again with safari, i was able to finish the update process. Do you know why that happens?

    Thx

    Peter

Another strange thing is that after the update my matrix fields are only shown with source view and the upload folder is below the footer.
I also run matrix and wygwam updates to the newest version but no luck anyway.

    Hi Peter,

I’m not sure I follow here. Are you happy with the way this is working now?

I saw in one post that safe cracker is now implemented inside the core, should i delete something in the third party folder or anywhere?

The only piece of SafeCracker that should be in third_party is safecracker_file.

Another strange thing is that after the update my matrix fields are only shown with source view and the upload folder is below the footer.

Are you having trouble displaying these fields in a regular template, or a SafeCracker template? Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing? Also, please post your template code that is giving you trouble.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

i did a new reinstall and go to all new add ons, step by step.
At the moment it work like it should be.

i deleted the old safecracker folder and nwo i have only safecracker_file inside.
So safecracker_file is the actual version 2.1, right?

The matrix source code field is now also fixed.
I updated my matrix module and everything is ok now.

    Thanks

    Peter

    That is correct!

I’m glad you have everything all squared away. If you have anything else in the future, feel free to start a new thread.

    Cheers!
