In this case use 301 redirect to your new url and people will be directed to your new email automatically.

As RaviSeol said, use a 301 redirect for your old domain. Here is an example using .htaccess
redirect 301 / <a href="http://www.yournewdomain.com/">http://www.yournewdomain.com/</a>In terms of updating EE, there are some configuration settings that you will need to change. It depends if you are staying on the same server, with same pathway, database etc it should just be a case of updating the URLs in the general preferences, channel preferences, file upload preferences (I think that is all the places). If you are moving server then there are some more changes you will need to make. Check this Wiki entry out for more info.
If you regularly change domain, or servers, an add-on called Deeploy is quite useful.
