I was wondering if anyone knows if there’s an easy way to move a template from one group to another?

Perhaps it’s just me and undisciplined dev habits but I tend not delete things even after the client/project changes direction. Instead of hording such things I’d prefer to just quickly shift them into a “Retired” template group. This way they’re of out the way of the active code base but still there in case direction changes back again. Which certainly wouldn’t be a surprise, eh?

    Anyone, any thoughts?

If you’re saving templates as files, it simply a matter of moving it from one template group folder on the server to another and resyncing. There’s no other native “move” function in the CP, but you can create a new template within your “retired” group and select the originating template to copy into the new template you’re creating.  But then you have to go back into your original template group and delete the original.  So it’s more like a “make a copy” function than a move.  The templates as files option is certain smoother and cleaner.

    Cheers.

    Thanks John.

I was looking for an add-on, etc. that might make it easier.

I know I can “copy / paste” but I hoping to make it less of a distraction.

You could export the Templates from a Template Group on the first site and then upload the unzipped files to your system/templates/ directory. They should then be available to choose from the “Template Library” option whenever you create a new Template.
