    Hey guys,

I’ve been running through local tests to update our site from 1.7.1 to 2.4.0.  Everything has been working well on my second run through, but now I’m receiving the following php errors.

    A PHP Error was encountered
    Severity: Warning
Message: Unknown: open(/var/lib/php/session/sess_cn12g2n7p6p1qb5eh3mrpq8eg3, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13)
    Filename: Unknown
    Line Number: 0
    A PHP Error was encountered
    Severity: Warning
Message: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/var/lib/php/session)
    Filename: Unknown
    Line Number: 0

On my local install I don’t get these errors at all.  On my remote web server, I do - and they’re only in the control panel.

It sounds like a permissions issue, but most things look right to me.  Have you seen this before?

    Thanks!
    Jon

    Hello Jon,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

This sounds like permissions to me. Can you check your installation and make sure that the directories have the write perms? Actually it sounds like the perms might be right, but the owner might be wrong. Do you admin this web server or is it hosted?

    Please let me know.

    Cheers,

Turns out something had happened with our /var/lib/php/session folder.  We pointed our php.ini to a different folder and this solved the issue.

I agree with your post though - this was most likely a permissions issue.

    Thanks!
