The sites I’ve seen created in EE are pretty impressive, so I figure if I can do something half as nice then I’ll be twice as good as before.

For now, I’m on a non-commercial license and plan to upgrade once I figure out how to use the tool and decide what to create commercially.

    So - hello.

If anyone has a “go-to” resource for someone that knows very little and needs to get up to speed, please don’t be shy - tell me where to go… hmmm…. tell me where the reference can be found.  That sounds a bit better 😊

(yes, I am reading the User Guide as a start - I know sometimes there are “special” resources that the community swears by - it’s that type of thing I am looking for)  Thanks again

    Hi Bergdoll,
There’s stacks of resources available for help with EE. However, what you can do with EE is pretty wide reaching. There are a few ‘basics’ that you’ll probably have already covered in the User Guide, in terms of the core set up of Channels, Entries, Fieldtypes and Categories ... once you’re familiar with these, the number of different ways you can implement them is huge.

So what you’ll probably find most helpful is to figure out in a bit more detail what you want to do on your new EE site and then do a few searches around those specifics on the forums here. The forums here are usually my first point of call whenever I need to try and figure something out 😊 And of course the user guide as you’ve already discovered.

Devot-ee is another great place to check. Although this is more for plugins & addons to extend what EE can do rather than helping with what it can do natively.

    Weclome to the community bergdoll.

    A good starting point is Train-ee (http://www.train-ee.com/courseware/free-tutorials/category/building-a-small-business-site/)

    Thanks for the link Rob.

Just to be clear (and at the risk of a bit of a sales pitch) - what Rob linked to was written for EE1.  While it’s not *too* hard to translate the code to EE2 (and the development approach is mostly the same), just be aware that the series was updated for EE2 but only in book form.
