Another blank index page question........

My primary use for EE has always been articles, forums and some other parts of my site - as opposed to the whole site, so I never used EE to route to the home (front) page of my site. Rather, most of my sections have hard coded links to the various EE channels.

Everything is working fine and has been for many years.

    Forums are at:
    http://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/forums/
    Other sections at similar URLS
    http://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/fuels
    etc.

So, my question is this. The URL to root is currently defined in EE as:
    http://www.hearth.com/econtent/

That yields a blank page. If I change the root, every single link in the forum, etc. gets messed up.

It has always been this way - so nothing is broken…but I would like that link to lead to somewhere or make it a redirected page…..people end up at it occasionally upon logging in from certain screens.

    Hints?

What template do you have set as the index for your site?

    What exactly do you mean?

In the CP Home ›  Admin ›  System Preferences ›  General Configuration

I have index.php set as “Name of your site’s index page”
and http://www.hearth.com/econtent set as “URL to the root directory of your site”

    but either of those pages
    hearth.com/econtent
    or
hearth.com/econtent/index.php are blank…..although the index.php file exists inside the econtent directory.

Under Templates › Edit Template Group for the econtent group,do you have “Make the index template in this group your site’s home page?” checked?

As you can tell, there is something here I don’t understand!

I don’t have a template group with that name! econtent is just the name of the actual folder in my web server that has EE inside it.

Ah, I guess I have it now….I get to set one index page in one template group as the default home page - any of them….doesn’t have to be named econtent…..???

    That seems to work….

As you can tell, I have never built an EE site from the ground up. My site already consisted of thousands of pages when I started using EE pieces, so I never set EE up in a “stock” fashion with a home page!

    Thanks!

    Craig,

Glad to see that Dylan was able to get you all sorted out. Is there anything else I can assist you with?

No, I’m good…amazing that something as simple as defining a home page eluded me…....
