Hey guys -

This is in reference to this post.  I have a client who upgraded their site from 2.1 to the latest 2.4 build and they are running the latest MSM. 

Post upgrade, on some of their sites the categories are working, but on others the category no longer works by using the category_url_title.  In one instance, the exp:channel:category_archive {entry_titles} tag pair no longer works.

The most obvious thing to to is to look in the Global Channel Prefs under: Use Category URL Titles In Links?  And indeed it is set to, Yes.  Also, looked at the entry and they are assigned correctly.

Any ideas?

Any chance that the sites with non-working categories, have some categories with identical category_url_titles as those in another site within the MSM?

It use to be that we could have categories with the same category_url_titles as those in another MSM site, but for reasons that I will never understand, EE quit allowing that at some point. If you have an MSM setup that was created a few years ago when the category_url_titles could be duplicated, you might be running into issues now.

When there are duplicate categories, EE will (in most builds/versions) still allow one site to work, and will silently just break the other site. So it can take a while to trace down the issue.

The first thing I would rule out is duplicate category_url_titles between 2 different sites.
