No file extensions with "Save Template as File"

I recently updated to EE v2.4.0 and now I’m having a problem where, when saving a template as a file, it no longer saves with an extension such as .html. This is causing problems with my ability to edit the templates with my preferred IDE (eclipse). Without an extension, I’m unable to associate the file type with an editing mode. Effectively, this makes it so that I’m editing in something similar to notepad.

I have attempted renaming the file to append the .html, but this seems to disassociate the file from the template on EE.

Is there some way for me to re-enable the saving of files with extensions? According to the 2.4.0 User Guide (http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/templates/templates_as_files.html) this should be the case by default.

    Thanks
