Suddenly this morning my site went down, with all pages showing this error:

    Error

The following tag has a syntax error:

    {exp:search:simple_form}

Please correct the syntax in your template.

Nothing had changed in the search form template, and no other maintenance had been done on the site. When I commented out the simple search form, pages rendered correctly again so it’s gotta be something in the search form syntax…like the error message says. And yet nothing about the form had been changed.

I have an advanced search form on the site and suddenly it doesn’t work either. Same error.

I reviewed the form code but find nothing wrong with it so I’m baffled. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Jack

I should have mentioned I’m running EE 1.7.0. This is a legacy site with a ton of important content, which we intend to migrate to a clean new EE2 site soon. Stuff breaking like this for no obvious reason gives impetus to move faster!

    Hey Jack!

In general, that error can mean that the requested module isn’t installed. Can you check in Control Panel-> Modules and make sure that Search is still listed as “Installed”? If that’s not the case, let me know and we will investigate further.

    Cheers!

Well…I just checked the Modules section of my site, and the Search module no longer even appears in the list of modules. That could explain things a bit. I’ll now check the module install files to see what’s missing. Wow!

    Thanks,
    Jack

Resolved: The Search module files somehow got deleted form the server. Thus, search broke. Ouch. Must have been some stupidity applied somehow, but I reuploaded the search module files and everything fine now.

    Thanks!

    Jack,

Glad you found the solution. I’m going to close out this thread, but feel free to post again when you have more questions.
