Hi, I just found the throttle table exp_throttle grows very big now. It stores all data from day one. In my opinion I think it’s unnecessary as throttling is to block tens of connections with a min at max. Please correct me if wrong.

Is it safe to delete all records while I’m enabling throttling?

If I want to setup a cron job to remove the records, what is a safe method?

    Thanks!

    Hi pixelbaker,

Thank you for taking the time to post today.

How large is your exp_throttle table growing to be? Are you seeing negative effects from the size of the exp_throttle table?

If I may ask, what do you have your “Maximum Number of Page Loads” and “Time Interval (in seconds)” set to?

I ask the above questions to gain a better understanding of how you are being impacted by the size of the Throttle table. Now to answer your questions.

You are correct, you may delete the records from the table without any unseen or unwanted results. A CRON job would work to regularly clean the table out and should be safe as far as ExpressionEngine is concerned.

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan,

Thanks a lot for your detailed reply.

My setting is about 25 pages in 8 seconds, as my site is quite fast and page is quite small. Is that something okay to block bots enough?

The table is about 200k rows now. It seems no performance is affected though I guess it will happen soon. I just deleted all records followed by your suggestion. It looks a bit faster now, maybe in mind. Nice!

    Thanks!

    pixelbaker,

Glad to see that Dan has gotten you sorted out. Is there anything else we can do to help?
