    Hello all,

In my “Membership Login” when a member sends a message it will update the nav as one new message however now when I clock “Inbox” it gives “the page requested cannot be found” error. What gives?

    Thanks,
    -Nick

    Hi Nick,

What version and build of EE are you using?
    Are you using any add-ons?

This is with the forums, correct?
What version and build of the Discussion Forums are you using?

Are you embedding the forum template in EE templates?

Are you using a htaccess file and if so what’s in it?

Is this a fresh install or an upgrade from a previous version or build?

    Hi John,

What version and build of EE are you using?
    Most updated version (20111017 2.3.1)

    Are you using any add-ons?
    Not currently.

This is with the forums, correct?
It’s not the forum, it’s the member profile field: “member/messages/view_folder/1/” on the member template area.

Are you using a htaccess file and if so what’s in it?
The only stuff inside the .htaccess file is what was written to remove the index.php from the URL’s.

Is this a fresh install or an upgrade from a previous version or build?
    Brand spanking new.

    Hi Nick,

Hmm… that’s really strange. I’m not able to reproduce that on my system. Could you disable the “remove index.php” part of your .htaccess file and add that back into your URLs just for the sake of testing?

  • #5 / Jan 25, 2012 12:01pm

Sure, I tested it earlier and added index.php to the url as well as renamed it redirect.php and it still didn’t work.

I don’t believe the issue is with the index.php in the URL because either way it doesn’t generate the page… would you be able to log in and assist?

That’s probably the best idea right now, actually. Be on the lookout for an email from me!

    Hi Nick,

From the tests I’ve been able to run, it looks like this is an issue with your custom profile theme. When I switch the member profile theme to the default, I’m able to pull up the InBox with no problem. I’d suggest comparing the custom work you’ve done on your own theme to the default theme. See if you can get the custom theme back to the basics, to the point where it’s working again, and then slowly build it up again until you run into the issue. That’s really going to be the best and only way to narrow down the problem, and it will end in a solution as well.

Let me know how you get along!

    Hey Kevin,

So, I’ve gone through and literally copied the old code to the new template. Since there’s a lot of templates, would you be able to supply me with what templates are needed or used in the InBox section? I’m wondering if I’m not editing one of the files due to not knowing what files are a necessity…

    Thanks.

Well, that’s just the thing. I’m not sure which theme file it is that’s causing you grief, and for any page in the member profile to display, there are a lot of theme files that are loaded to create the view. I would recommend replacing your own theme files that refer to messages with the default files of the same name, check to see it works, then slowly replace the default ones with your own until you come across the problem spot. Then take that same tack in the file itself, slowly making changes until you come across the part of your file that’s causing the issues.
