We’re a small part of a large company, previously with complete control of our domain, which we used EE with.

The corporate office has mandated that we switch to their custom built CMS and we not longer have complete control of our domain. Our domain is now hosted on corporate server. All of our EE files are hosted on a third party server. Our domain no longer points to that 3rd party server and instead points to the corporate server. After much complaining, our IT department did some sort of server magic and now foo.ourdomain.com points to the third party server where are EE files are hosted. We can do whatever we want there and intend to keep using EE there.

    My questions are this:

    1. Am I current in assuming that our copy of EE is now on subdomain of our domain?

    2. Are there any issues to be aware of hosting EE like this? We can access our old files now, we just have to remember to go “foo.ourdomain.com” instead of “ourdomain.com”.

    We using EE 2.

I do this all the time—especially during development.

All you have to do is make sure all the config files are referring to the correct locations. I use “deploy helper” - it makes this process painless.

you can grab the add-on here: http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/deeploy-helper

    Hi BrandB,

There shouldn’t be any adverse side-effects. You will want to go through steps 7, 8, 9, and 10 for Moving ExpressionEngine to Another Server.

If you double check all of that, you should be in fine shape.

Let me know if you have any other questions or run into any issues.
