I’m am looking for a way to create a list of deeply nested entries from a single channel.  What I am looking for would work like a family tree allowing to parent entries to be tied to a single child entry, the kicker is it could be multiple generations of nested entries.  Is there a way i can do this without a plugin, or if if a plugin is required i would be glad to look into that.

    Thanks.

That would be tough to pull off in an efficient manner using native EE functionality.  Sounds like a job for Structure: http://www.buildwithstructure.com

Structure is outstanding, we use it on almost all of our sites, but it won’t allow for multiple parents to be tied to a single child per your requirements.

I suspect that Playa is what you need.  Setup a custom field called “Child Entries” in your channel, and you’ll be able to add whichever child entries you like.

Thanks for the replies, I too have used structure in the past, but I am also not sure how that would work for multiple parents.  I’ll mess some more with playa.  To extend the complexity most of this data will be entered using safecracker so I want to avoid as much complexity as possible in the data entry portion.
