Hey, everyone. Please excuse the noob-ee post. I’m using Safecracker to allow non-members to post entries/ads to a classifieds ad site, not unlike Craigslist. I’m looking for the best way to send an email to the author after they submit their ad with a link that allows them to edit their ad or delete it after their item sells. This presents me with two questions:

    • How do I allow a non-member to edit or delete their entry through Safecracker, and
    • How do I automatically generate and send an email to the author after submission.

For the first, I see the user guide says Safecracker allows for editing, but can’t find any examples. It would seem that the URL for the submission form, somehow appended with the URL Title would do the trick. Quickly tried with no luck. Any love?

For the second, I’ve found out how to enable email notifications on channel entries, but not sure how to tie that in dynamically to the author’s email address (captured in a custom field, {email_address}). This add-on also seems to have promise as well: http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/email-from-template

I’m guessing some folks out there have done this before. Any recommendations for the best way to do this?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hey Jeff -

I’m thinking you’re not going to be able to allow non-members to edit/delete entries as membership/authorship is the means by which entries are assigned to a specific account for proper edit/delete privileges.  Even Craigslist requires an account..😉

This article has some instructions for the editing side:

Thanks, Mike. The editing info looks very useful. Any insight on sending an email to the author upon submission?

Nevermind. After seeing how easy it is for a guest to edit their entry…and everyone else’s…I’m definitely going the membership route. =D
