Wondering if this something that can be easily accomplished?

I would like to show a thumbnail image along with the Title and the Intro / Excerpt field in my Brief Entry.  and then when one goes to the Full article entry the thumbnail is not shown in order thet one can show a full version of the image.

So Show Thumbnail image in the brief entry and go to showing a Large version of the image in the Full entry

One way is to use an addon to dynamically create thumbnails and smaller images for you from the original - there are several addons that can help out here see http://devot-ee.com/search/results/search&keywords=resize&channel=addons&addon_version_support=ee2/

Or, use native EE functionality to do the same..😉

You can setup an image manipulation on a file upload directory such that EE will create a thumb for every image uploaded to that directory.  You can then use some file field tags to pull the thumb when needed.

The nice part about this approach is the resizing happens on upload and no add-on required.

Thanks to you both!  Boyink with your suggestion if one wants to place the thumbnail in the Upper Left corner with the brief text wrapping aground it, i can see placing the thumb in a custom field.  Then when going to the full   article if i want to place the large image in a separate div to the right of the story can your solution still be accomplished? I guess the full image would be in a separate custom field. Am i on the right track?

No. One custom field, upload one image (the fullsize version), and EE would create the thumb for you.
