Is there a simple way for me to change the type of encryption EE uses from SHA1 to MD5?  There is a chat client I’d like to use with EE, but the encryption is different so passwords are incorrect.

I know ‘simple’ might be a long-shot, but I thought I’d ask anyway.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, @nnette -

Unfortunately there is not; that is something that can only be chosen easily at installation time.  Changing it might mean export/re-import, or some other more direct database manipulation.  There’s not a simple solution though.

I wish I had a better option to offer you, but unfortunately I don’t at this time.  Did you want me to shift this to Community Help in case others have some input?

That is an option at installation?  Ohhh.  That might be doable.  Thanks, Lisa!

Yep, at installation and only then.  =)  But you can choose at that point.

Also remember passwords are salted, so that may be something you need to account for.

    Does that help?
