    Hi,

    I am not able to get the channel categories to work in member profile and registration. Can this be done? Or does it have to be only member fields that can be put in member profiles?

    I am guessing that channel categories cannot be selected without submitting anything in a channel entry? Can it act like a member field?

    I am asking this because I want to generate results of categories depending on what the user has selected in their profile?

    Thanks.

    Solspace’s User module gives you the ability to tie members in with channel categories. Some other member addons might do it as well, but I know User definitely does - http://www.solspace.com

    Hi bluedreamer,

    I am currently using Solspace User and I have found this in the documentation:

    parent_id=
    parent_id=“4”
    Using the User Category feature, in the event you’re using sub-categories or a parent category for your users to assign themselves to, you can specify the ‘parent_id’ parameter to filter down to the parent category so that the Categories variable pair does not output the parent and child category.

    Although I don’t see how this can help me? What is a code example that I can use to display this in my member profile and registration?

    I will also post this on User support forums.

    Thanks.

    Tis there, honest 😊

    Mentioned in their docs http://www.solspace.com/docs/detail/user_control_panel/#category_groups - also check out their Docs about the register form, that shows you some register form examples using catageories.

    No doubt the Solspace team will pick u your thread over there and point you in the right direction.
