    Getting this database error (added screenshot to attachments)

    A Database Error Occurred

    Unable to connect to your database server using the provided settings.

    Filename: core/EE_Config.php

    Line Number: 172

    This is the only thing I see on line 172:

    {
       $query = $EE->db->get_where('sites', array('site_id' => $site_id));
      }

    Followed the migration instructions via ee-developer.com

    Set all the permissions as follows:

    Set to 666:

      system/config.php

    Set to 777:

      images/avatars/uploads/
      images/captchas/
      images/member_photos/
      images/pm_attachments/
      images/signature_attachments/
      images/uploads/
      system/cache/ *Make sure the subfolders in system/cache are empty, if not, delete their contents, leaving the subfolders.

    Apparently these files are supposed to be set to “777” but I can’t locate them:

      system/config_bak.php
      path.php

    Any thoughts?

    Here is instructions for moving your site to another server from the official docs.

    I would follow these docs as this is the officially supported method.  I haven’t read the article you linked to, but I see the date posted is Tuesday, December 30, 2008 which is quite old.

    You might just give this another try using the official docs.  Also make sure that you are able to connect to the DB using the settings that you have entered info your config file.  One great, quick way to do this is to use the dbtest utility which is shipped with your ExpressionEngine download.  I wasn’t able to find docs on this, but it’s pretty easy to use.  Look at the forum entry posted below for reference.
